Continually transforming light...

From its founding in the 1960s by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina, Flos has continually reinvented and revolutionised the concept of lighting.

When Sergio Gandini began managing Flos in 1963, he established a creative vision and image that would lead to the creation of history’s most iconic lamps. This winning combination of factors, created in collaboration with the company’s exclusive designers like the Castiglioni brothers and the Scarpa duo, brought about a success and template that transformed contemporary lighting design. Under his son Piero’s management in 2000, Flos took another step toward the future, this time focusing on a unique balance of artisan craftsmanship, iconic designs and endless artistic expressionism.

As LED lights became more popular at the beginning of the 21st century, Flos developed new and unique luminaires which combined technology and art to courageously blaze a trail with designs that have defined the face of modern lighting.

Noctamule Collection

by Konstantin Grcic

The most iconic lighting design of the 20th century, the PH5 Pendant was originally designed in 1958 and has been manufactured ever since by Denmark’s prestigious lighting manufacturer, Louis Poulsen.

Designed by German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic in collaboration with Flos, the Noctambule Collection is truly one of a kind. Taking its name from the French word for “night owl”, its unique design takes centre stage when lit, while appearing almost invisible in daylight. Featuring hand-blown glass cylinders that intersect with one another via LED rings, the modular design of the Noctambule collection allows the user to add and subtract different elements, providing endless creative possibilities for both floor and pendant lighting.

Coordinates Collection

by Michael Anastassiades

Originally designed for the Four Seasons restaurant in New York, the Coordinates Collection by Michael Anastassiades is a sophisticated meeting of light and sculpture.

Offering both simple and complex configurations, the designs are composed of horizontal and vertical luminaires constructed from anodised, champagne-coloured aluminium with an integrated platinum optical silicone LED for a luminous glow. Simple, clean and contemporary, the Coordinates Collection offers striking yet delicate lighting for today’s interiors.

IC Collection

by Michael Anastassiades

Contemporary and minimalist, the IC Collection, designed by Michael Anastassiades for Flos, explores the nature of balance. Inspired by contact juggling, each piece in this collection is characterised by a beautiful, spherical opal glass shade balanced on the edge of a rod, capturing a moment of perfect equilibrium. Offering a range of designs from wall and ceiling lights to table and floor designs, the IC Collection is effortlessly elegant and strikingly beautiful.

When Cypriot-born, London-based designer Michael Anastassiades first collaborated with Italian lighting brand Flos in 2011, it marked the beginning of one of the most celebrated partnerships in contemporary design.

Known for his poetic yet precise approach to form, Anastassiades brought to Flos a sensibility that blended sculpture with function, minimalism with emotion. The result has been a series of collections that have reshaped the way we think about architectural and domestic lighting.

His debut series, IC Lights, became an instant icon. Inspired by the mesmerising balance of a juggler spinning spheres, the design places a luminous opaline glass globe delicately on the edge of a slim metal rod. The lamp’s fragile equilibrium speaks of both tension and grace, turning a functional object into a poetic moment of stillness. Available in table, floor, wall and pendant versions, the IC collection exemplifies Anastassiades’ talent for creating designs that feel timeless and inevitable.

This success paved the way for further collaborations with Flos, including Arrangements, a modular system of geometric LED pendants that resemble jewellery for the home. Here, Anastassiades explored the relationship between lighting and adornment, inviting users to compose their own chandeliers by linking illuminated rings, lines and shapes into sculptural arrangements. The series demonstrates his fascination with purity of form while harnessing cutting-edge technology.

Other notable works include Coordinates, a collection originally designed for New York’s Four Seasons restaurant, which translates cartesian grids into luminous structures; and Copycat, a minimalist table lamp where a small metal sphere supports a glowing glass globe, echoing themes of balance and duality.

The enduring strength of Anastassiades’ collaboration with Flos lies in the shared commitment to innovation and craft. Flos provides the technological expertise and production mastery, while Anastassiades contributes a vision that is at once rigorous and poetic. Together, they have created lighting that transcends utility, becoming part of the cultural conversation around design.

More than a decade on, the partnership continues to flourish, with each new collection reinforcing Anastassiades’ reputation as a designer who sees lighting not just as illumination, but as a medium for storytelling, atmosphere and timeless beauty.
