A stone’s throw from our Bath showroom, tucked within Shires Yard (a vibrant destination in Bath known for its Georgian architecture and independent spirit), Coret Coffee is a beacon of calm with their coffee expertise and inviting atmosphere. Surrounded by honey-toned stone and a mix of local businesses, it’s a setting where design plays a subtle but important role in shaping how people gather, pause and spend time.

For their outdoor space, business owner Toby has chosen the &Tradition Thorvald collection, designed by Space Copenhagen. Its sculptural yet understated form sits naturally within the historic surroundings, bringing a contemporary edge without feeling out of place. He pairs Thorvald SC94 Chairs with SC96 Round Tables and Thorvald Cushions, creating an effortlessly stylish spot for his customers to enjoy their drinks.

We spoke to Toby about how the furniture works in a busy café setting and how it contributes to the overall feel of the space.

Can you tell us a little about Coret Coffee and the idea behind the space?

Coret Coffee is a bit of a love letter to specialty coffee. I've spent a lot of time in the industry now and my idea behind Coret was to combine all of my favourite bits of specialty coffee, as well as testing out some ideas of my own too. And so far it's been going above and beyond my expectations!

What role does the outdoor seating area play in the experience you want to create for your customers?

We went very hard on the aesthetics when creating Coret, wanting to create something both cosy and stylish. So of course we had to extend that out into our outdoor seating area, thinking not just how it ties into Coret as a business, but also the space we're filling within Shires Yard as a whole.

What drew you to the Thorvald collection when selecting furniture for your outdoor space?

First thing was the beautiful green colour with white cushions, which goes perfectly hand in hand with our existing colour palate within the store! But also the soft rounded edges across the collection just scream it's going to be a comfortable experience, and having spent a lot of time sitting on them, I can confirm it is!

How has the furniture performed since installing it outside the café?

The amount of people who stop and take pictures of our outdoor seating never ceases to surprise me! Honestly it's getting to a point where I think we might need to start charging people for their photoshoots!

From a day-to-day perspective, how does the furniture work for a busy café environment?

It works amazingly for me, the tables give a lovely amount of space for people to have drinks and cakes without fear of them toppling off the sides! But also on a more practical side, they've got a good weight to them that they don't go flying with every gust of wind, while being light enough that we can easily carry them in at the end of the day!

What do you think makes a great outdoor coffee spot?

It's all about the vibes for me. Outdoor coffee is always best on a hot Summer's day, and being able to sit down in the shade with a book and an iced flat white is incredible! Especially when you're sitting comfortably in a beautiful space, it just ties the whole experience together. Just makes you want to stay there all day!

We highly recommend taking a trip to Coret Coffee when visiting our Bath showroom. Toby has created an excellent example of how good design effortlessly sets the scene within a hospitality setting, turning it into something special. The pieces work hard, standing up to daily use, but blend harmoniously into the setting, allowing the great coffee to take centre stage.

Grab a coffee, sit back on a Thorvald chair and enjoy a relaxing moment… This is exactly what Space Copenhagen had in mind when designing the Thorvald collection.
