Sibast No 7 Stool with Back Rest

Sibast Furniture features respectful reissues and refinements of the iconic furniture designed by Helge Sibast. Preserving his original craftsmanship and timeless visual language, the collection also features new contemporary designs, building upon his body of work. Dating back to 1908, Sibast Furniture started as a family-run wooden furniture making company. Now in its 4th generation, Sibast Furniture still pays the same attention to detail, craftsmanship, and quality, while also adding new perspectives and creating new design stories. The company's aesthetics come from the Danish Modern movement of the 1950s and 60s, when Sibast Furniture gained an international reputation for its highly functional furniture of sublime quality.

Here are five intersting facts about Sibast Furniture

1. Founded in 1908 as a small carpentry workshop in Denmark

Sibast Furniture began when Peder Olsen Sibast opened a cabinet-maker’s workshop on the Danish island of Funen. His focus on craftsmanship and fine woodworking laid the foundation for what would become an enduring design legacy.

2. A Golden era under Helge Sibast in the 1950s–60s

Peder’s son, Helge Sibast, took over the company and led it to international recognition. During this period, Sibast employed over 120 craftsmen and became known for its refined modernist furniture designs that balanced aesthetics with functionality.

3. Classic mid-century designs (No. 7 & No. 8 chairs)

Helge Sibast designed some of the brand’s most iconic pieces, including the Sibast No 7 and No 8 chairs from 1953. The No 8 chair, with its sculptural form and floating seat, is now considered a Danish design classic and continues to be produced today.

4. Revival in the 2010s and continuing legacy

After a period of dormancy, the company was revived in the early 2010s by the fourth generation — Ditlev Sibast and his wife Anna. They relaunched Sibast Furniture to honor Helge’s designs while also collaborating with contemporary designers to expand the collection.

5. Commitment to sustainability and Danish craftsmanship

Today, Sibast Furniture continues to produce all of its pieces in Denmark, using locally sourced wood and environmentally responsible production methods. The company places strong emphasis on sustainability, durability, and maintaining traditional woodworking skills through modern design.
