DCW Editions Lampe Gras No204 L40 Double Wall Light

The Lampe Gras has been on walls since 1921 and it shows, not in the sense of age, but in the kind of confidence that only comes from a design that was right the first time. Bernard-Albin Gras made it for engineers and draftsmen, people who needed light that moved when they moved and stayed put when they didn't. Le Corbusier had them in his studio. That context never entirely leaves the lamp, which is part of what makes it so compelling in a home.

The DCW Editions Lampe Gras No.204 L40 Double Wall Light runs two arms from a single wall base, each one articulating independently across three points so both can be angled without affecting the other. It works particularly well either side of a bed, or above a sofa where two people tend to end up reading in different directions. The steel arm is long enough to bring the light properly close, and the shade holds its angle without needing to be wrestled back into position. Solid, considered, made in France.

DCW Éditions have been producing the Gras lamp since 2008 and they treat it accordingly, not as a museum piece but as a working object that happens to be one of the best of its kind. The double version simply gives you more of what the lamp already does well.
