Fredericia Soborg Wood Base Chair with Upholstered Seat

The Fredericia Soborg Wood Base Chair with Upholstered Seat has a very straightforward, comfortable feel to it, which is probably why it has remained so widely used since Borge Mogensen first designed it in 1950. The proportions are slightly more generous than many dining or meeting chairs from the same period, with a wider seat and supportive back that make it noticeably easier to sit in for longer stretches of time. It feels practical in the best possible way.

Mogensen combined solid wood with moulded plywood to keep the design light while still giving it warmth and durability. The rounded edges soften the overall shape and stop the chair from feeling too formal or rigid, while the upholstered seat adds an extra level of comfort without changing the simplicity of the design. There’s an honesty to the way it has been made. Nothing feels added unnecessarily and the construction is still easy to appreciate decades later.

The Soborg Chair works naturally in dining spaces, restaurants, meeting rooms and more relaxed work environments where furniture needs to cope with daily use without losing its character. It has a calm, unfussy presence that settles into a room quite easily. For additional finishes, upholstery options or further customisation, please contact sales@hollowaysofludlow.com.
