Sir Paul Smith has created a design language that is recognised worldwide. A British design icon in his own right it was only natural that he should team up with Anglepoise to create something that is both nostalgic and also achingly up to date and cool. We love the Paul Smith Anglepoise desk lamps. What else could be better to finish off a home office or study?

Learn more about Paul Smith.

Sir Paul Smith is celebrated as one of Britain’s most influential designers, renowned for his ability to blend classic tailoring with an unmistakable sense of playfulness. Since founding his label in Nottingham in 1970, Smith has continually challenged the boundaries of menswear and lifestyle design, fusing tradition with wit, colour and unexpected detail. His mantra, “classic with a twist,” defines not only his clothes but his many collaborations across art, interiors and product design.

Among these, his ongoing partnership with Anglepoise stands out as a perfect meeting of two British icons. Smith first reinterpreted Kenneth Grange’s Type 75 desk lamp in 2014, transforming its clean, modernist lines with a vibrant palette inspired by his love of colour blocking. Where the original lamp was functional and understated, Smith’s editions introduced bold personality, demonstrating how a small shift in tone could completely reframe a design classic.

The collaboration proved so successful that multiple Anglepoise + Paul Smith editions followed, each marked by new colour combinations drawn from art, architecture and nature. From pastel shades that recall spring skies to deeper tones inspired by autumnal landscapes, each version showcases Smith’s ability to tell stories through colour. These lamps have become collectibles in their own right, bridging the worlds of fashion and industrial design.

What makes the Anglepoise collaboration so compelling is how naturally it aligns with Smith’s philosophy. Like his tailoring, the lamps remain rooted in timeless structure, but enlivened by wit and originality. Together, Paul Smith and Anglepoise illustrate how heritage design can be continually renewed, offering a joyful reminder that even the most functional objects can carry personality, humour and style.
